I am a qualified and experienced adolescent counsellor accredited by the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
I first qualified as a teacher at the University of Cambridge in 1996. I then became increasingly interested in the emotional wellbeing of young people which can often impair their ability to learn and thrive in school or university.
I completed a post graduate certificate in psychology at the Institute of Education in London in 2003.
Following this I under went the training as a counsellor with Childline NSPCC and worked taking calls and emails from young people in distress for five years. Issues being addressed in these calls varied greatly from feelings of suicide and self- harm to exam stress, family issues and bullying among others.

My professional training as a counsellor was at ThePlace2Be where I completed my post graduate diploma in counselling children in schools in 2014. Since this time, I have been working in a range of schools in London including The Cavendish school, Harrow Boys school and at Barnet Youth Centre. I worked for many years as a school counsellor for St. Margaret’s school in Hampstead.
I presently work at the renowned Priory Hospital in Southgate as well as running my own private practice.
I am very familiar with issues which may be affecting teenagers and impacting on their relationship with their families and peers. Worries about self-image and social media often cause tension to arise in families and it can be hard for parents to know which approach to take. Through my support of the young person I can help families navigate their way towards positive change and new ways of relating to one another.

I work within the BACP guidelines regarding confidentiality. This means that occasionally I may need to speak to a young person’s next of kin or an outside agency if I am concerned for their immediate safety. I strive to do this with their consent and understanding.
I have contacts with a local adolescent psychiatrist and psychologists who I can refer clients to, if we feel assessment might be helpful, to allow for extra time in exams, support at school or university or to explore if medication may be appropriate.
